Has anyone else read "The Shack"?You might want to stop reading this post if you haven't b/c for all I know I'm giving away a big part of the story. Anyway, I just got through the chapter where God is revealed to be a large African American woman, the holy spirit is a little Asian woman and Jesus is a modern-day carpenter wearing a flannel and jeans. As much as I love God and large African American women, this past chapter has been hard to get through.
Does it get better or start to make more sense?
On a random note, I always picture real-life people to play my mental version of the characters in a book. At this point, God is being played partly by Della Reese from Touched By An Angel, and then sometimes by the oracle from The Matrix...even a few times by that lady in the new Ikea commercials. At least it's not Oprah! I'm picturing the little Asian woman as the lady who altered my wedding dress and kept arguing with me that it wasn't "too poopy" (when I thought that it was too poofy), and Jesus is being played by the somewhat cute Middle-Eastern looking American Idol contestant who got kicked off last night - that would obviously never happen to Jesus, as I'm sure he has a lovely singing voice. Was that blasphemous?
I'll post an update when I'm done. I've heard it's a wonderful book.

I'm through 6 chapters, your mom has finished it and I hope to finish this weekend. I've heard that it is life-changing and some say to avoid it. Jesus was actually middle eastern wasn't he? hmmmm Most pictures make him look like George Hamilton without the tan. A black God?... why not, just not sure about the female part :-)

I really loved the book...and I can't seem to tell anyone about it without starting to cry. I know the part you are in sounds a little crazy right now, but the reasons are explained as you go along. For me it helped me understand so much of God's view and the overwhelming love He has for us...Keep reading....I'm ready to read it again as soon as your Dad is done with it. Will be interesting to see what he thinks. See you Sunday evening! Love ya gobs, Mom
Finished the book a couple of days ago. It was a really cool take on the whole man/Trinity relationship, and I especially liked how it dealt with forgiveness.
Granted it may be reach a bit with how God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are depicted, but it is after all a work of fiction.
My opinion for what it's worth... Unlike so many of the "Christian" books out there (other than the biggy, the Bible), and especially "Christian" movies, this was very well-written and not at all preachy.
Anyway, I would give it 4 stars, or 5 or whatever. A kick-ass read, if that is appropriate.
OMG...keep reading! I'm surprise you've made it this far b/c of the emotion, but it is SOOOOOOOOO good and his explanations of the attributes of God are so clear and conscise, I'm amazed!
Let me get this right-
you have two little kids-
BOYS, at that-
and you still have time to read??!!
I thought it was good, but I didn't gush over it as everyone else seems to be doing. I read it several months ago. It gave me new ways to think of things, which is always good. Maybe I'm not a deep enough thinker.
