I was reading my 36-week-update yesterday on babycenter.com, and there was one line that really stood out to me:
At the end of this week, your baby will be considered full-term.
Wow. It dawned on me that this baby is coming soon. If he comes in 6 days, he won't even be considered premature. He'll be a regular-sized bambino.
I suddenly realized that we are not nearly as ready as I had thought.
I found some baby registry checklists online to refresh my memory as to what we need, and realized that I have some shopping to do.
We currently have one pack of wipes. One pack? How long will that last - 8 hrs? And we have no diaper pail or even a trash can for diapers! I'm low on bibs and burp cloths, and the baby wash cloths that I have had for the past 3 years are as thin as Viva paper towels. And I only have one changing pad cover, which will ultimately be poop-covered within 24 hrs. Diaper rash cream? Might be a good thing to have.
And what about a nightgown for the hospital? I don't even own a nightgown, except for the hideous one I bought for Hayden's birth that was some type of mu mu/clown suite hybrid. It seriously needs to be replaced.
Then there are nursing supplies - nursing pads, lanolin, bottle nipples!
Booger sucker? Thought I had that covered, but as I was cleaning it out today with soapy, warm (anti-bacterial) water, it sprung a hole.
I can only find the receiving end of my monitor. I don't think that will do much good.
Infant Tylenol? Mylecon? When do you start giving babies these things? I can't remember!
Do they sleep on their stomachs or backs? I'm pretty sure it's backs, but it's been so long that I seriously need a refresher course.
I'm also designing the magazine for our Mom2Mom group at church. It's almost done, but it's not to the printer yet! And in addition, I've put an ad in the magazine for my somewhat imaginary at-home graphic design business. This means I've had to create a website and add a portfolio. It's not done either!
And I had planned to design our birth announcements. I hoped to have it all ready, except for the photo, of course. At this point, I have nothing. Not even a name!!!!
And then there's our little guy. I bought him a "baby brother doll" last week to help him prepare. Within 5 minutes, he had stripped it of its clothes, opened the sliding glass door, inserted baby brother's head, closed the door and left him hanging there with amusement and pride.
As I make a trip to Target today, please pray for me. Pray that I don't become overwhelmed by every "new & improved" safety product or "baby genius-maker" educational toy that I see. Pray that I don't fall into a ball of panic as I choose from ultra-sensitive, organic or moisturizing wipes.
Most of all, pray that my water doesn't break before I make it to the check-out line.

ahh!! i'm so excited for the baby to come!!
Girl - this isn't the scary stuff, it's the FUN stuff. It's the exciting part of becoming a momma again. You are a pro at being a mom & the second time around is so much easier. A wet paper towel completely works as a wipe in a bind. Dirty changing pad? Poop wipes off the plastic in no time! :) Hope your trip to Target was fun - my little guy is only 18 months & I'm miss the newborn stuff already!
That's My Kelli! Just calm down and breathe. I'll help you when we come next week. (That is if your water doesn't break and the baby is already here)! LOL Sue was just asking me yesterday what you needed. I said, "Oh, nothing really, she seems to already have what she needs". Oops, wrong answer. What you don't get at Target today, let me know and I will tell Sue and we can bring it with us next week. Just a thought...Your new business...If I were you I would put at the bottom of the ad.."Taking orders beginning January 2009". It would give you time to settle in with the baby and get through the holidays without any more stress than normal. The only thing you need to worry about is finishing the magazine and getting those birth announcements ready. Wish you could see Karlee..she is such a happy baby. Shannon had a fun time with her yesterday. Shan will be a really good baby sitter for the newest little one also! Also, my suggestion for Hayden and the new baby...Keep the sliding patio door LOCKED! See you Sunday afternoon! Love ya gobs, Mom
Sounds like you are really busy. Hope when the baby gets here you can finally grab a rocking chair and chill out!
I'm excited for your new business. If we lived closer, you could put me on the pay roll! I would love to learn that stuff!
And one last thing- ALWAYS listen to your mom!
You crack me up!!! What the heck were you doing for the past 8 months. Watch out Target crazy prego lady coming your way. Miss you!
Just remember how they lived in the olden days...kids ate from "wet nurses"...everything will be FINE!! I'm so excited to see pictures.
