Date Night in the Windy City

The weather was miserable. Our hotel room smelled like an ash tray. We were dressed in flip flops and shorts while the locals were wearing their boots and North Face jackets.

And we had the best time.

Troy and I went to Chicago this weekend to celebrate our 7 yr anniversary. My parents came and watched the boys (thanks again, mom & dad!). We had planned to walk the Magnificent Mile and do some shopping on Saturday afternoon before dinner. But the weather caused an impromptu detour into a small Irish pub where we watched the Cubs-Cards game. This was the same pub we accidentally walked in to years ago during another trip to Chicago in the middle of the summer. It was scorching hot and we needed to get out of the heat. It's funny how this little downstairs hole-in-the-wall has popped up twice when we needed to get out of the elements and really didn't know where we were.

And our dinner...oh my goodness. It was phenomenal! We ate at The Capital Grille. It was, by far, the nicest place we've ever eaten. When we sat down at our table, we were greeted by an anniversary card signed by the staff. And after some of the best steaks we'd ever eaten (and lobster/crab cakes, tomato & mozzarella salad, etc...), we were treated with champagne and chocolate cake. Our dinner lasted two and a half hours, and we savored every moment of it. This dude's picture was hanging on the wall in front of me, so I was checking him out all night. No idea who he is.

We decided to get some fresh air on Sunday morning and took a walk down Michigan Ave...only to be met with another torrential downpour. All in all, we bought three umbrellas this weekend out of on-the-spot necessity

Of course, we were thrilled to get home and see our boys. Poor Hayd is sick and I'm convinced he has the swine flu, just as I've been convinced that one or all members of our family have contracted bird flu and the West Nile virus at some point in time.

Thanks again, Troy, for a wonderful night out! And the past seven years haven't been too bad, either :)

so fun, i am so glad you got a weekend together! sounds like you have both learned the greatest lesson of all in marriage...the only important thing is who you are with, no matter what the circumstances:-)

I'm so glad you had a great time!
Your Dad and I loved being with the boys! The Hayden thing with the fever shook me up a bit, but he took the medicine and the fever went down. (I'll never know where you get all the worrying from...LOL). Carson is the happiest most content baby I've ever seen. You almost forget he's around (except for the high pitched squeals and me checking to see if he's breathing 50 times Saturday night)! See you in a couple of weeks....Love ya gobs!
